Your motivation? “Giving of myself and showing people that I care. We can touch people’s lives by just taking a little time out of our schedules. It’s a win-win for everyone involved.”
Why join Kiwanis? “Singing River Electric is a great company to work for; they encourage and support employees to be involved in our community. They know Kiwanis is a great organization to be involved with. In fact, we have several employees who are Kiwanians.”
Favorite inspirational quote: “The Golden Rule. I try to live by it and teach my boys to treat others how they want to be treated.”
Ellen Matthews knows what it takes to grow a Kiwanis club. While in her role as growth chairwoman, she helped the club add 25 new members. And, in addition to caring for her twin sons at home, she’s taken several more children under her wing.
“I am Gautier High School’s Key Club advisor,” she says. “It is a fairly new club, and we are working hard to get established in our community.”
But how does she find time for it all?
“I guess it’s like anything else—you just do it,” she says. “If you feel passionate about something, you will make the time for it.”
