We hope clubs and individuals everywhere will join the Kiwanis International Foundation in the month of April in skipping at least one meal and donating the equivalent cost to our foundation. When you chip in toward this year’s goal of US$125,000, you’ll help fund our foundation’s grant program, which benefits thousands of children annually at home and abroad.
Here are a few ideas on how you can skip a meal this month and generate excitement in your club:
1. If you’re a coffee drinker, consider the weekly cost of purchasing a cup of coffee on the way to work. Skipping that and making your own coffee can help you save the money to make a gift through the Skip-A-Meal program.
2. How many times during the work week do you go out for lunch? Try taking your lunch to work. Make your own, or make a large dinner at home the night before. Take the leftovers to work the next day. This saves the time and hassle of going out for a sandwich and waiting in line!
3. Make Skip-A-Meal a family occasion. Make a nutritious dinner with your family. Get everyone involved—one person can chop vegetables, another can handle the stovetop and another can mix any ingredients.
4. Make Skip-A-Meal a neighborhood occasion! Invite friends, family and neighbors to your house for a pitch-in or a potluck dinner. Use the occasion to tell everyone about Skip-A-Meal and the Kiwanis International Foundation. Maybe you’ll get a donation—or even a new member for your club.
