Every December since 1984, the Kiwanis Club of Guelph has organized this very event specially for the special needs children of the Upper Grand District School Board, drawing from about 40 schools in the area. That means that over 300 students and nearly 200 assistants, teachers and Kiwanians this year joined together to celebrate the special holiday with luncheon of salad, pasta, chocolate milk and ice cream and lots of music!
This year, Santa was there handing out gift bags to every child with plenty of help provided by his elves and volunteers. Kiwanian Fred Hoffman has been the driving force behind this project since the beginning and now has it fine-tuned to run like clockwork.
Many dignitaries were in attendance to show their support, but speeches were kept to a minimum so the kids could enjoy the festive atmosphere.
Three students shared the job of being emcee for the event, with Fred Hoffman hovering in the background. He also saw to it that they each received a special Kiwanis certificate.
