CKI and Key Club members at International Conventions

The Kiwanis Service Leadership Programs, specifically Key Club International and Circle K International, host annual conventions to elect new leaders, celebrate award winners, attend educational workshops and show off service ideas. Are your Key Club or CKI members attending these events?

Of Key Club International’s 250,000 members, only about 1,500 attended the 2010 international convention in Memphis, Tennessee. Most Key Club members travel on district tours because of the convenience and because for every 10 Key Clubbers, one adult chaperone is required to attend. Several more travel to convention in tandem with their own chaperones. You could help more Key Clubbers get to the international convention by volunteering to be a chaperone or getting your Kiwanis club to financially support a Key Club member or district.

The 2011 Key Club International Convention happens June 29-July 3, in Phoenix, Arizona. Find out more at www.keyclub.org/convention or contact your Key Club district administrator

to learn about your district’s tour and when the registration deadline is.

We all know college students don’t have a lot of money. Maybe that’s why only 350 of the 12,600 CKI members attended the 2010 Circle K International Convention in St. Louis. Does your Kiwanis club sponsor a CKI club? If so, you can help your CKI members travel on an exciting trip to the 2011 Circle K International Convention in Virginia Beach, Virginia. It happens June 22-26, 2011. Find out more at www.circlek.org/convention or ask your district’s CKI administrator for more details.

Here are some more ideas to get your Key Club and CKI members to their international conventions:

  • Regularly visit your sponsored club’s meetings and get international convention updates
  • Encourage the members to attend these important events
  • Help the club host a fundraiser that will pay the way
  • Ask your Kiwanis club to provide international convention scholarships to Key Club or CKI members
  • Encourage members of your Key Club or CKI club to run for international office
  • Ask members who’ve attended Key Club, CKI and Kiwanis international conventions in the past to share their experiences
  • Learn more about the host cities (Virginia Beach, Virginia, and Phoenix, Arizona)
