Meals on Wheels Gets Help From Local Builders ClubThe Builders Club of Marine Park Intermediate School could not let the Thanksgiving holiday pass without reaching out to try and cheer up those who might be spending the Thanksgiving holiday alone. Club members from the 6th, 7th, and 8th grades enthusiastically created cheerful cards to include in the meals that reach many hungry New Yorkers through Meals on Wheels.

Sheila Clay, the Meals for Wheels liaison who has worked closely with the club, has expressed enthusiasm and appreciation for the club’s involvement over the past year.

The Builders Club is a branch of Kiwanis. It was established four years ago at Marine Park Intermediate School and is sponsored by the Parkway East Kiwanis Club. Throughout its four-year history, the club has reached out to many worthy organizations including: Meals on Wheels, City Harvest, Heifer International, Toys for Tots, UNICEF, and the Park Slope Women’s Shelter to just name a few. Faculty coordinator Regina Kieran has been fully supported by the faculty and administration, especially Principal Debra Garofalo.

Mrs. Kieran says,”The faculty never fails to amaze me! No matter who we are trying to help, they are always there to support the club any way they can.”

The Builders Club recently raised over $350.00 for UNICEF and is currently working on packing holiday stockings to aid our troops overseas.
