KIWANIS INTERNATIONAL PRESIDENT-ELECT
Susan A. “Sue” Petrisin of Lansing, Michigan, was elected as president-elect of Kiwanis International in July 2014 at the 99th Annual Kiwanis International Convention in Tokyo, Japan. Sue is the first woman in Kiwanis International’s history to serve in this role.
Sue is a 27-year member of the Kiwanis Club of East Lansing, Michigan, and served as its Circle K International and Key Club International advisor and sponsored youth committee chairman. She earned honors as distinguished president in 1995-96. She served as the vice chair of Kiwanis’ global campaign for children, The Eliminate Project, during its initial year, overseeing the Service Leadership programs. While serving on the international board, Sue has served as board counselor to Key Club and member of the Education, Governance, Programs and Partnerships, Executive, and Audit and Finance Committees. She has served as board counselor to the Louisiana-Mississippi-West Tennessee, Indiana, Wisconsin-Upper Michigan, Pacific Northwest, Ohio, Michigan, Taiwan, Switzerland-Liechtenstein, and California-Nevada-Hawaii Districts. At the district level, she served as governor in 2001-02, chairwoman of the strategic planning committee, CKI and Key Club administrator. Prior to joining Kiwanis, Sue was CKI Vice President in 1985-86 and distinguished governor in 1984-85, and was Key Club governor in 1979-80 and Key Club district secretary/treasurer in 1978-79. She is the first person in Kiwanis International’s history to serve as Key Club Governor, Circle K Governor and Kiwanis Governor.
A life member with 27 years of perfect attendance, Sue is a Diamond-level 4 George F. Hixson Fellow for the Kiwanis International Foundation, a Diamond-level 6 charter Walter Zeller Fellow as well as a recipient of the foundation’s Tablet of Honor and a member of Kiwanis International Foundation's Heritage Society. She also served as foundation trustee from 2006-09. She was a member of the Key Leader Advisory Council and is a Key Leader lead facilitator. Before her election as trustee, she served on the international committee on leadership education.
Sue holds a master’s degree in human resources and labor relations and bachelor’s degrees in food science and dietetics from Michigan State University, East Lansing. She is associate director for the Michigan State University Alumni Association.
