Grant assists babies, young mothers
Babies create a lot of dirty laundry. Now
imagine the piles of laundry from 23 babies, and you’ll have an idea of
what the Booth Family Care Center in Boise, Idaho, deals with daily.
The center, which cares for unwed teenage
mothers while they finish high school, desperately needed to upgrade its
old thrift store washers and dryers. The Kiwanis Club of Boise,
Gem State donated $2,500 toward the center’s goal of purchasing
a commercial washer and dryer, but needed that amount matched.
Enter the Kiwanis International Foundation.
A matching grant was approved, allowing the equipment to be purchased
and professionally installed in the newly named Kiwanis Laundry Facility.
The resulting cleanliness reduces the risks
of infant illnesses and allows them—and their young mothers—to rest easier
and concentrate on more important things.
