January 2008

Photography errors and solutions

One of the most effective ways of getting publicity for your Kiwanis club is by taking story-telling photographs. In the next few issues, Kiwanis International Update will focus on common photography problems and their solutions.

The number one problem: Subjects are posed as a group, shaking hands, or passing a check. Such images do not really tell the story.

The solution: Take a picture of the action that tells the true story of your club's project.

For hands-on training, attend a photography forum at the 93rd Annual Kiwanis International Convention, June 26-29, in Orlando, Florida.

Submit your great photo of a great Kiwanis project, and next month, Kiwanis International Update will publish its favorite image. Don't forget to describe the project.

Get ready for One Day

Start planning your club's Kiwanis One Day project with the help of an easy game plan. Online resources explain how to organize a One Day committee, select a suitable project, notify the news media, and ultimately report your One Day success to Kiwanis International.

Lowdown on the downloads

  • There are many ways to access materials from the KiwanisOne.org portal. You may select to view each folder:
  • Alphabetically. If you know the name, this list will work for you.
  • Most Popular. The most-used materials over recent days.
  • Most Downloads. Similar to "Most Popular," but over a longer period.
  • Most Recent. This list begins with the newest items.
  • Most Comments. Read comments from other Kiwanians; the more comments an item receives, the higher it moves up the download list.

Find your favorite sorting method across the top of the Download page.
