Meet Jim Jacobs
MEMBER: Kiwanis Club of Monroe, Michigan
PROFESSION: Jim comes from a family embedded
in the church—his father, grandfather, and uncles are ministers. Though
he chose a different profession, he says architecture also is a community-minded
profession, and many architects volunteer their time in the community.
Active in his community church, Jim also serves on a board that reviews
construction plans for churches.
COMMUNITY SERVICE: Eight years ago, the Monroe
Kiwanis club made Stepping Stones Therapeutic Riding Program, a horseback
riding program for children who have disabilities, one of its community-service
projects. Jim enjoyed the program and continued going each week. He now
spends 12 hours a week at Stepping Stones in addition to his club voluntarism—everything
from serving meals to the homeless to fund-raising projects.
