Circle K International Past President dies

Circle K International Past President, longtime Kiwanian dies

Paul L. Frantz, 1978-79 Circle K International President, died Saturday, March 5, in Duarte, California, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Paul began his Kiwanis-family affiliation when he joined Key Club in Bozeman, Montana. By the time he was elected Circle K International President at the 1978 Convention in Orlando, Florida, Paul already logged six Kiwanis district conventions, five Key Club district conventions, two Kiwanis International conventions, and five Key Club International conventions. He went to Orlando with a long list of accomplishments to be achieved in one year.

As a Circle K member at Montana State University, Bozeman, Paul served as lieutenant governor and governor for the Montana District before serving as CKI Vice-President and President. During his term as governor, the district received International recognition for being the only district to have Circle K clubs on all college campuses within its boundaries.

After receiving his bachelors, masters and doctorate degrees, Paul practiced law in Montana before giving up the “Big Sky Country” for the sands the Pacific coast, where he joined the faculty at California State University, Long Beach. He continued his Kiwanis-family service by serving as the faculty advisor to the Circle K Club of California State University at Long Beach, and by joining the Long Beach Kiwanis club. “I believe very strongly in voluntary community service,” he said at the time. “It is rewarding and enjoyable to work with others.”

Paul is survived by his parents and his sister and brother. Services will be at 3 p.m., Friday, March 11, at Bay Shore Community Congregational Church, Long Beach. Additional services and burial are pending in Bozeman.
