Skip one meal, help countless kids

Think kids in other nations are “too far away” for you to help? Participate in the Kiwanis International Foundation’s Skip-A-Meal event, and you can help children in need all around the world who are served by the foundation’s Kiwanis Children’s Fund.

Skip a Meal imageSet for the final week in April, Skip-A-Meal challenges Kiwanis-family members to forgo just one meal* and contribute that meal’s equivalent cost to the foundation. The foundation uses Skip-A-Meal contributions to support and fund the growing number of grants provided through the Kiwanis Children’s Fund.

To get the ball rolling, begin planning Skip-A-Meal early—and make it a fun-filled Kiwanis-family event. Though Skip-A-Meal can be as simple as doing without a regularly scheduled club meal, Kiwanis clubs can team up with Circle K, Key Club, Builders Club, K-Kids, and Aktion Club to stage creative Skip-A-Meal events. Consider, for example, inviting a dietician to a Kiwanis-family gathering to discuss healthful eating habits; staging a Kiwanis-family pitch-in and voting—via donations—for the best dish; or using Skip-A-Meal in connection with a world-hunger awareness program.

*Do not skip meals if you have medical restrictions such as diabetes, are taking insulin therapy, or are consuming any glucose-lowering medication. Those under a physician’s care should consult a doctor before participating in the activity. For medical situations, simply make a donation on behalf of the Skip-A-Meal event.
