K University ‘makes you want to ‘do’
If you dread “training sessions,” you’re not alone. Pat Hurrelbrink admits she was not looking forward to a daylong event this past December. She expected it to be the usual: dry, boring, dull.

“But it wasn’t,” she eagerly explains. In fact, the adjectives she chooses to describe her experience include “motivating, inspiring, energizing, and exciting.”
What has Pat positively abuzz with enthusiasm: K University.
“It was a great day—not only for Kiwanis, but for life,” says the Kansas City-West Kansas, Kansas, Kiwanian. “(K University) makes you want to ‘do.’”
K University, described as a “traveling road show,” is a one-day event led by professional speakers and key International Office staff. The sessions motivate, educate, share a vision of Kiwanis’ future, and enhance communication. Sessions are set throughout North America—as well as a few locales outside North America, including, this past November, in New Zealand.
Pat didn’t have to go far. She attended a K University in Kansas City, as did Downtown Hutchinson, Kansas, Kiwanian Wendy Dowling. Both women took home life lessons applicable personally, professionally, and, to boost their clubs and their overall Kiwanis experience.
“The K University experience impacted me by showing me what Kiwanis is really about,” says Wendy, who is a new Kiwanis member. “What I discovered is that it is so much more than just an organization that helps kids. (Kiwanis) can change a community.
“I walked away from the experience knowing I wanted to be a part of (Kiwanis), not just thinking I did.”
