The younger the better

The research is overwhelming and irrefutable. The time period from when a child is first conceived until he or she reaches the age of 5 is the most critical to personal development and to future success in life. Children younger than 5 who live in a nurturing, safe, educationally stimulating environment are much more likely to develop into responsible, contributing members of society. This issue of KIWANIS magazine is full of examples of Kiwanis members who understand this principle and are investing in Young Children: Priority One.
You will read about ordinary leaders who do extraordinary things to help develop our children, especially our youngest and most vulnerable. You also will have a chance to meet Michael Adams, a man who has dedicated his life to developing young people at the college level. His rise from International President of Circle K in 1969-70 to president of one of the United States’ oldest and largest universities is one filled with hope and inspiration.
The Kiwanis investment in people—like president Adams—and in thousands of young children worldwide helps fulfill our promise to serve the children of the world. This investment will pay dividends in the lives of these children for years to come.
Please join us in applauding your efforts to make a difference.
