My Kiwanis Moment—A wish come true
About 10 years ago, I went with a dozen Kiwanians to build a children’s home in Jamaica. Before I went, I purchased material for our community’s high school sewing class to make 80 pairs of kids shorts. In addition, our Key Club decorated 80 T-shirts.
After a couple days of carrying cement blocks and mixing mortar in the Jamaican heat, we took a break for a Kiwanis meeting. I sat next to the director of the children’s home and asked her what one wish she had for the kids in her care. She said a change of clothes was what they needed most. I told her that wish just came true.
The next day I went to the home and dressed all 80 kids one by one. My tears—tears of joy—grew as each child gave me a hug of thanks.—Mary Edwards, Kiwanis Club of Corry, Pennsylvania |
