Project sets moms on way to a new beginning

A new mom and baby receive a diaper bag from the Grants Pass Golden Eagles Kiwanis Club as part of the club's The Kiwanis International Foundation awarded the Grants Pass Golden Eagles Kiwanis club in Oregon a US$5,000 grant to continue its work with new moms in need.

Each year, the club donates gift certificates and well-supplied diaper bags to new moms at a birthing center in a program the Kiwanians call “New Beginnings.” With the additional money allotted to the program, the club can supply 330 diaper bags and 54 gift certificates.

About 700 babies are born at the birthing center each year, about one-half of whom are born to moms in need of some sort of help. This grant, club representatives estimate, will allow the club to reach almost all of the center’s needy families.
