New site a portal to all things Kiwanian

The scenery along Kiwanis’ information superhighway is rapidly changing with the ongoing rollout of KiwanisOne.org, the organization’s new member portal. The portal, which is a collection of Kiwanis resources, is separate from and complements Kiwanis’ public Web site and home page.

“We wanted to move away from having our member-administrative resources mixed in with the public site,” notes Angela Evans, Web communications manager, “because anyone who came to kiwanis.org to learn about Kiwanis had to wade through a lot of resources with a Kiwanis-business focus. Though the transition is still underway, restructuring how members access forms and downloads was a huge step in the right direction. The new file-access system, labeled 'Downloads' under 'Kiwanis Community,' mimics other popular software in look and function and should feel familiar to many users.”

Some of the components of the KiwanisOne portal are finished and available now, while others still are being developed. These include:

  • Kiwanis Leader. A new resource for service leaders, both inside and outside the organization, Kiwanis Leader will include forums for communicating with other Kiwanians; ideas for developing leaders at the district and club levels; Chief Executive Officer Rob Parker’s blog, along with the opportunity to post your comments; suggested reading lists; and leadership quotes. Kiwanis leader also features the International President's page, the Kiwanis Insider archive, presentation downloads, and video and audio clips. In the future, it also will host guest bloggers and materials related to all levels of leadership.

  • Kiwanis Community. This site sports members-only downloads (no login and password currently needed), including club administration materials, KIWANIS magazine, and service project kits, with plans for blogs, forums, and a photo library.

  • Member Resources. This area, still under development, will include a database of service ideas; marketing and PR resources; club-building tools; growth campaign resources; club Web site resources; and awards and contests.

  • Club Management System. View a demo to see how this area can help you and your club publish its newsletter, maintain a calendar, establish a Web site, manage your club roster, and much more. To access the demo, you will need the log-in name and password available within the second bulleted paragraph of the What Is KiwanisOne? page.

  • Online reporting. Eventually, all Kiwanis reporting will be done through the portal. This includes monthly reports and club elections.

Angela encourages all Kiwanians to become familiar with the member portal.

“Eventually, all member-specific resources will be available only on the portal,” she explains. In the meantime, she adds, much of that information still will be available on the recently updated public site and, in the short-term, Kiwanians still can access the old site at http://classic.kiwanis.org.
