Gayle Smith

2020 Kiwanis International Convention BlueGayle Smith is on the front lines working to end extreme poverty and disease. She is the president and CEO of the ONE Campaign — an international advocacy organization founded by Bono and other philanthropists.

Smith has served two American presidents, most recently as the administrator of the U.S. Agency for International Development, which helps fund the elimination of maternal and neonatal tetanus and iodine deficiency disorders.

Smith spent more than 20 years in Africa as a journalist for the Associated Press, BBC, Reuters and many others. She’s worked with and advised many non-governmental organizations throughout her career.

She told the Washington Post Magazine in April 2019, “Throughout my career, as a journalist, in NGOs, inside and outside government, I have been a big believer in investing in our common humanity. I think it’s in our interest to do so. I think it’s right to do so. And it actually works.”

On Saturday, June 20, she will connect the dots with how the work done in Kiwanis communities changes lives not just at home but in places all around the globe.
Kiwanis is serious business with a playful spirit. So that's exactly what this convention will be — a union of grown-up commitment and childlike exuberance. Come to Indianapolis for leadership and community service education with a playful twist. June 17-20, 2020.
