Kiwanian creates device to help during pandemic

Julie Saetre | Apr 14, 2020

Scott KleineThe April/May 2020 issue of Kiwanis magazine introduced Scott Kleine, a member of the Greenfield, Indiana, Kiwanis Club (“Tech Support”). Kleine, a former industrial arts instructor and race-car builder, volunteers at a technology-based co-working center and maker space.

Now Kleine is using his skills to save lives during the new-coronavirus crisis. He recently donated the first three intubation hoods to a Hancock County, Indiana, hospital. The enclosed, plexiglass boxes fit over a COVID-19 patient’s head, enabling a health care work to intubate the person while lessening the chance that virus particles will spread.

The intubation hoods are now in use in the hospital’s emergency room and intensive care unit.
