Kiwanis One Day is the day clubs around the world work together to improve their communities. Clubs from New York to California and from Taiwan to Norway can provide service alongside other members of the Kiwanis family. Except this year, things are different.

While the pandemic has changed many activities around the world, some Kiwanis clubs have begun meeting. Many are meeting online. Others are meeting in small groups outside, where social distancing is possible. Still others are meeting at their favorite restaurant — all depending on local health restrictions.

And some clubs want to participate in Kiwanis One Day. It will be held this year on Oct. 24, but a club in California started collecting food from community members in late August. Still others are finding ways to participate by working outside or in small groups.

In Florida, the Kiwanis Club of Punta Gorda will clean a local park. The club hopes to have help from other clubs in the division, including the Punta Gorda After Hours, Port Charlotte Sunrise, Englewood, North Port and Venice clubs.

The North Garland Key Club and the Kiwanis Club of Garland in the Texas District will work together to collect socks to be given to those in need. They’ll be helped by the local police department. The Key Club in Liberty, Missouri, will work with the Kiwanis Club of Liberty in the Missouri-Arkansas District to clean a local highway.

And, in the Eastern Canada and the Caribbean District, the Kiwanis Club of Pinewood is planning a sale or clothing distribution, depending on local health restrictions.
